Frequently Asked Questions

How much light does Miralight produce?

Miralight produces a much softer light than traditional night lights. The actual light level will vary depending on how much it is charged and how long it has been since it was charged. Immediately after a full charge it will illuminate objects a couple feet away with about the same light as if they were in full moon light. Typically it will be less than that. The appearance of the light output will vary greatly depending on how much your eyes are dark-adapted. If you have just come in from a light room it's not very bright. So, always allow your eyes to become adapted to the dark – it takes about 20 minutes for that to happen. Temperature also has an effect on the light output. The warmer it is, the more light is produces and the faster it uses up its charge.

Does it produce enough light for reading?

No.

How long will it produce light until it needs another charge?

On a full charge it will produce light for about 14 hours. The amount of time varies depending on how warm it is -- the hotter, the faster. Immediately after a full charge it is at its brightest. This initial brightness will fade to about one half that brightness in about 15-20 minutes. From that point it will slowly diminish but you probably won't notice the dimming through the night.

How long does it take to charge?

Under a strong light it takes just a minute a so. If for some reason your Miralight doesn't have a full charge when you're ready to use it, just hold it close to a strong light. It should be positioned so that it is facing the light at right angles. The closer, the better. Florescent lights work faster than incandescent lights. Ultraviolet light is the best.

How many times can I charge Miralight?

You can charge Miralight over and over forever! Its light-storing capability never wears out.

Do the MiniMiralights produce as much light as the full-sized Miralight?

The MiniMiralights are much smaller than the full-sized Miralight and although their surface brightness is the same per square inch, because of their size they produce much less light. They are recommended only to provide an indication of the position of objects, not to actually illuminate.

Can Miralight be used for emergency lighting?

It has not been tested or certified for that use and we do not recommend that you use it for that purpose, however, the technology used to produce Miralight's light has been used in other products intended for emergency lighting and emergency egress systems.

What color is Miralight when it is not lit?

It varies depending on the amount and type of ambient light and how much of a charge it has. Generally, it is a pale yellow, but if it has a full charge and the ambient light is not too bright it will have a greenish tint.
